Alaska SAR Dog Memorial
Located at the Alaska State Troopers headquarters building in Anchorage, the Alaska SAR Dog Memorial first honored past SAR dogs for their efforts in searching for lost and missing people at a ribbon cutting ceremony in 1997.
The South Anchorage Rotary helped sponsor the memorial providing the engraved monument and the Canadian Red Cherry Tree was sponsored by the State Urban and Community Forestry Program. Members of Alaska Search and Rescue Dogs prepared the site, planted the tree and continue to maintain the memorial for all search dog handlers around the state.
The monument reads:
In Living Memory of Alaska’s
SEARCH AND RESCUE DOGS
Responding across the last frontier
To help lost and missing people
They leave this world and
Their human partners too soon
