Welcome to ASARA Alaska Search and Rescue Association (ASARA) is an association of search and rescue organizations and individuals in Alaska. ASARA is a non-profit whose mission is to support search and rescue efforts across the state of Alaska. ASARA accomplishes this through:
1) providing liaison support between Alaska's Department of
Public Safety and the volunteer search and rescue community
2) seeking state and national sources of continued funding for search
and rescue training opportunities for volunteer personnel
3) allocating grant funds for professional level training to search and
rescue organizations and personnel throughout Alaska

"With a commissioned count of less than 400 troopers, AST depends heavily upon the professional volunteer search and rescue organizations, as well as the military and local emergency service agencies. There are roughly 48 volunteer organizations statewide. These volunteers drop what they are doing to answer the call for help that often interrupts regular day jobs and family life."

Sitka Mountain Rescue has been organized and active within the City and Borough of Sitka since the early 1960's. The team is all volunteer and currently has 45 active operational members on the roster.

Avalanche Level II Course
Pre-Requisites - (1) intermediate backcountry travel skills, (2) participation in a prior 3 day AAS Level 1 Course or equivalent and (3) at least a year of experience since your Level 1 Course.

Mon, March 12, 2012 Juneau Mountain Rescue / Juneau Ski Patrol
National Ski Patrol Mountain Travel Course I
Attendees taking Mountain Travel and Rescue (MTR) courses will learn a variety of skills, including nutrition and how the body performs in a wilderness environment, weather patterns, survival skills, working with group dynamics, an introduction to search and rescue, rope rescue skills, improvised toboggan construction, and land navigation with map, compass, and GPS. Mon, March 26, 2012 Anchorage Nordic Ski Patrol
National Ski Patrol Mountain Travel Course
This course provides students with basic knowledge and skills to travel and work in reasonable comfort and safety in an outdoor environment. Field practice includes basic navigation, travel, and survival, and an introduction to search and rescue. This course does not include an overnight campout. Mar 26-29; Overnight between Mar 30-Apr 2.
